The RCD Method
We have selected the RCD (Roller Compacted Concrete for Dam) Method for the construction of the body of the Satsunaigawa Dam instead of using the usual method of pouring concrete. Because the concrete of this method is no-slump lean concrete, it can be transported by dump truck or other way and be spread by bulldozer and be compacted by vibrating roller. So it is possible to place much concrete quickly and efficiently by utilizing this method. This method also eliminates the necessity of costly cooling procedures. The RCD Method can economize on time and money in dam construction.
1.Motor spreading

For obtaining tight bond between layers, mortar is spread on the horizontal construction joints.
2.Transportation and spreading of concrete

Concrete is transported from the batching plant to the dam by means of 11t-dumptrucks and spread in 3 horizontal layers.
3.Spreading

Concrete is spread by bulldozers in each layer of 25cm in thickness. 1 lift consists of 3 layers.
4.Joint cutting

The transverse joints are made by vibrating joint cutting machine, and the joint separator plates are inserted.
5.Compaction

Concrete is compacted by the vibrating rollers.
6.Spreading

Concrete is kept wet with sprinklers for curing. The concrete surface is cleaned by motor-sweepers.
