In Hokkaido, cities are scattered across a broad area, which accounts for about 20% of the total land area of Japan and they form a geographically-distributed community. Long-distance travel is unavoidable in the main industries including agriculture, fisheries and tourism, for the shipment of agricultural and marine products to all over Japan, or on a sightseeing tour across the island. Therefore, we are promoting the intensive and efficient measures to establish a high-speed traffic network earlier, in order to secure quick, safe, and comfortable transportation.
