Hororo, Reconversion of Farmland into Wetlands
Restoration Site 4 : Hororo, Reconversion of Farmland into Wetlands
A restoration project was implemented to convert farmland developed decades ago into wetland.
Some farmlands that were once developed on former wetlands have now been reconverted to wetlands because they are no longer cultivated.
Surface soil is excavated and removed to lower the ground level closer to the water table. As the ground surface approaches the groundwater level, the area becomes wetter and is expected to recover to a wetland state.
The photographs below show changes in the landscape from the original land to the excavated site.
